Overview

About Gemach

Gemach is a DAO of community experts which provides tools to generate alpha across the DeFi ecosystem.

Our client currently had a Telegram bot for trading newly deployed tokens but also wanted to expand to a web app to address key gaps and grow their user base.

The Telegram bot faced challenges such as low adoption due to security concerns and users needing to switch platforms for information.

Problem Statement

Before trading in newly deployed tokens, users must verify scams, check tokenomics, check socials, assess honeypot risks, review charts, and more across different platforms — which makes the process tedious and time-consuming.

The Solution

A one-stop solution for trading newly deployed tokens, consolidating all essential tools and data into a single dashboard, making trading seamless and efficient.

My Role

Solo Designer, leading the design from ideation to execution, collaborating with the developer and the client.

Target Users

Users engaged in trading of newly deployed tokens.

Research

Building Domain Knowledge

Since I was a complete newbie in the crypto domain, I started by reading articles, watching videos, and taking notes to build a basic understanding.

This helped me ask the right questions when talking to users/client and gain deeper insights into their needs & requirements.

Competitor Research

Although there were no direct competitors solving the exact same problem, I looked at indirect competitors in the crypto trading space.

This helped me understand existing design patterns, what users were already familiar with, and how we could build on those mental models.

User Interviews

With the client's help, I connected with users in the crypto trading space to understand their needs and mental model to come up with a user-friendly solution.

User interview process

The goal was to understand how people trade newly deployed tokens, their pain points, and identify the factors that influence their decisions.

Key Insights & Pain Points

After talking to 5 users, I got many insights that needed to be considered in order to design a user-friendly solution.

Essential Information for Decision-Making

1. Reviewing the token's white paper/tokenomics.

2. Analyzing social media presence and engagement.

3. Checking token data on platforms like CoinMarketCap.

4. Verifying security and ensuring it's not a scam (e.g., using Honeypot checks).

5. Tracking the token's traction and growth over time.

Pain Points

Frequent Platform Switching
Users need to navigate multiple platforms to gather information on newly deployed tokens.
Missed Opportunities
The fast-moving market makes it hard to gather information in time, leading to missed opportunities.
Time-Consuming Process
The constant back-and-forth between different platforms slows down the decision-making process.

After talking to the users, I connected with the client to discuss the insights and to define the scope for the MVP.

Key Features

Feature 1: Multi Buy/Sell of Tokens

This feature allows users to buy/sell multiple tokens in a single trade.

  • Users can save on gas fees by bulk trading tokens instead of trading individually.
  • Since trading with newly deployed tokens is very rapid, the user needs to make trades very quickly to make profits.
  • By consolidating purchases into one transaction, users can respond swiftly to rapid market movements and secure tokens before they sell out.

Feature 2: Buying/Selling from Multiple Wallets

Allows users to trade the same token from multiple wallets at once.

High-demand tokens sell out rapidly, with strict wallet limits restricting purchases. This feature lets users buy tokens from multiple wallets, enabling them to act quickly and secure more tokens efficiently.

Learnings & Future Scope

Future Scope

Although the requirement for this project was only to design and hand off the final designs while the client handled development and launch, if I had the chance, I would have done more to ensure the best user experience.

Usability Testing
Tested designs with real users before handoff to catch issues early.
Design Iteration
Used feedback from testing to make improvements and refine the experience.
Beta Testing
Observed how users interacted with the product after development to gather feedback.

Learnings

  1. Diving into an unfamiliar domain. This being my first project in the crypto space, I had a great learning opportunity to dive into crypto trading.
  2. Stakeholder management matters. Learned a lot about ensuring smooth communication with the client and development team.
  3. Advocating for user interviews was key. It gave me valuable insights that shaped the design and made it more user-friendly.

Thank you for taking the time to walk through this case study with me.
